More July flowers

ABOVE:

all of the hydrangea pictures are from the same plant. Some are pink, Some are purple, some are violet. The daylily is called Aztec gold. The foxglove is a plant that I started from seeds that I purchased from Johnny’s. The only color that has bloomed so far is this cream color. I am amazed that they are blooming since they are considered biennials. Biennials usually do not bloom until the second year. As the Grecian foxglove in the previous entry, all fox gloves are considered poisonous. The little pink flower is new this year from Agway. It is a pink penstemon.

I love spiky shaped flowers. This year I have gotten as many as possible. Astilbes, penstemon, Foxglove, snapdragons, Veronica, and salvia are examples. I love the contrast when they are in arrangements with Daisy shapes, trumpet shapes and rose shapes.

July 1 flowers around the house.

I went out this morning and just took a few pictures of some flowers that I thought were kind of interesting. Here they are:

Daisies
Peach carpet rose

Hydrangea

Aztec gold daylily

I am very excited about the Cleome Because I was able to start it from seeds that I retrieved from a pocket garden nearby my home last fall. I started the seeds in early March in the basement, and they germinated beautifully. I actually used to dislike this flower, but it’s a really interesting tropical looking flower that grows to 4 feet, is not at all fussy or prone to diseases or bugs, and I am extremely excited about the fact that now I can save seeds from my own Cleome!

The Grecian foxglove is another interesting flower that I spoke about last year. It is a biennial, so it didn’t bloom at all last year. It spreads by its roots, so I dug up one of the new plants two years ago and moved it to its present location. Last year it did not bloom. This year it is really looking good . It has five spires and is looking quite healthy. It is another example of a plant that does not seem to be prone to problems. I think it’s also quite rare. It’s also very toxic. I have no idea where it came from. NOTE… I found out that I had ordered the seeds for the Grecian foxglove from Nancy Ondra, The well-known Garden author. It did not bloom the first year, so I forgot all about having ordered them. It suddenly started blooming about four years ago . I looked it up and found out what it was, and decided I thought it was a cool plant so I would keep it. I’m glad I did! I love tall spiky flowers. The bigger, the better.
